A new post!?!So I'm pretty much the worst blogger ever. And I don't really care. Sorry if anyone does.<br />
<br />
BUT, I did make something blog worthy this past week. I have a friend at church who is about to have her first baby and she has hired me to make her some baby clothes. So far I've only made one thing but it turned out pretty great. <br />
<br />
She showed me a romper that she really loved and I tried to replicate it. My first try with my homemade pattern turned out a little wonky, but I fixed the pattern as I went and the final romper turned out awesome. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oE1CWss6gSo/T8kfexN0mDI/AAAAAAAAGL8/G04EuVqdEgI/s1600/IMG_9388.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oE1CWss6gSo/T8kfexN0mDI/AAAAAAAAGL8/G04EuVqdEgI/s400/IMG_9388.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Pretty good copycat amirite? It is size 12 months so her baby won't be able to wear it for awhile but once he does, he will be a-freakin-dorable. Seriously. <br />
<br />
Here are some of the details:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CoT1eLMG-MA/T8khceUX_oI/AAAAAAAAGME/ZaZ6RQGAvBI/s1600/May+2012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CoT1eLMG-MA/T8khceUX_oI/AAAAAAAAGME/ZaZ6RQGAvBI/s400/May+2012.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">button closure on shoulder, snaps at crotch, bias trim, and side ruching</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nD3M9zTG7uI/T8kh624WPLI/AAAAAAAAGMQ/F9obOtEwVcA/s1600/IMG_9370.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nD3M9zTG7uI/T8kh624WPLI/AAAAAAAAGMQ/F9obOtEwVcA/s400/IMG_9370.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
It was pretty simple to make once the pattern was done... so if anyone wants one for their baby, I'm for hire! But I would only be able to make it in size 12 months. :)Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-21907079208579167512012-02-14T06:00:00.000-08:002012-02-14T06:00:03.936-08:00Deer SilhouetteHappy Valentine's Day! <br />
<br />
Remember how in the <a href="http://allforthispenny.blogspot.com/2012/02/party-in-box.html">awesome party in a box</a> post, I mentioned that I also added a gift she could open up at the party? Well, here is that gift.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0G3lq9XsOBs/Tyb1cwf0JAI/AAAAAAAAFzE/e3pdX-Z-Qmg/s1600/IMG_9024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0G3lq9XsOBs/Tyb1cwf0JAI/AAAAAAAAFzE/e3pdX-Z-Qmg/s400/IMG_9024.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Deer kitchen towels. S'cute right? I guess I am not over my <a href="http://allforthispenny.blogspot.com/2011/11/antlers.html">deer/antler</a> phase. <br />
<br />
First, print off a deer silhouette (I found mine with an easy google search). <br />
<br />
Trace it onto the paper side of freezer paper and then cut it out. I had to use tiny, sharp scissors to get to all the small places. <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BtQ9VfuEEo0/Tyb0FByoGgI/AAAAAAAAFy0/CbXQXVtdHpw/s1600/IMG_8978.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BtQ9VfuEEo0/Tyb0FByoGgI/AAAAAAAAFy0/CbXQXVtdHpw/s400/IMG_8978.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">my deer all cut out and ironed on my towel</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Once your deer is cut out, iron the shiny side of the freezer paper onto your towel. Make sure the freezer paper adheres well to the towel. <br />
<br />
Grab some fabric paint (I found my at Joanns) and a stencil foam brush (a regular foam brush would probably work fine, too) and dab that paint on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6UscYVAu6sk/Tyb01ubiebI/AAAAAAAAFy8/Y5EkYTtEKi0/s1600/IMG_8980.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6UscYVAu6sk/Tyb01ubiebI/AAAAAAAAFy8/Y5EkYTtEKi0/s400/IMG_8980.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Let dry for a few hours or pull out your blow dryer (if you are impatient).<br />
<br />
Once it is dry, gently pull off your stencil. It should come off very easily and you are done! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IIWgtLqGkcI/Tyb1v8KG6LI/AAAAAAAAFzM/soX0vVRL4-4/s1600/IMG_9014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IIWgtLqGkcI/Tyb1v8KG6LI/AAAAAAAAFzM/soX0vVRL4-4/s400/IMG_9014.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-22213706605019054672012-02-10T07:00:00.000-08:002012-02-10T07:00:10.876-08:00Party in a BoxThis gift is what happens when I am terribly homesick, have too much time on my hands, and my sister is turning 30 (TODAY!).<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JStHDLz43Jk/TybvVI3ExlI/AAAAAAAAFyc/qjaQ_IVb_7w/s1600/IMG_9011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JStHDLz43Jk/TybvVI3ExlI/AAAAAAAAFyc/qjaQ_IVb_7w/s400/IMG_9011.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">In the box</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Yup, an awesome party in a box. Included: paper lanterns, cupcake liners, glittery boxes, napkins, confetti, sprinkles, happy birthday banner, and adorable paper straws. Oh, and a horse (it's for fun). At the last minute (therefore not pictured), I even added a gift she could open at the party (because, honestly, parties are more fun with presents). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-300qdnjzbfc/TybvfwOsPiI/AAAAAAAAFyk/ru4sPPWc0nM/s1600/IMG_9002.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-300qdnjzbfc/TybvfwOsPiI/AAAAAAAAFyk/ru4sPPWc0nM/s400/IMG_9002.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the most effort/thought I've ever put into a gift. Ever. I'm usually too cheap and too pragmatic to do something like this. Everything coordinates and almost everything is labeled. I even opened the cupcake liners so I could change part of the packaging.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xupX1NM2His/TybumkmyDVI/AAAAAAAAFyU/726jzeA-3Ps/s1600/Jan+2012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xupX1NM2His/TybumkmyDVI/AAAAAAAAFyU/726jzeA-3Ps/s400/Jan+2012.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Labels, labels, labels</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The part I love the most? The horse. Why? Because it makes me laugh. It started out as a gray dollar store toy and turned into a white dollar store treasure... with a label. <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sXUIkzFxzIU/TybwUttbs4I/AAAAAAAAFys/TEmiW7GL-q4/s1600/IMG_8989.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sXUIkzFxzIU/TybwUttbs4I/AAAAAAAAFys/TEmiW7GL-q4/s400/IMG_8989.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Horse!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Happy Birthday Liz! I hope all your dreams come true!Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-89655119816894853162012-01-31T11:35:00.000-08:002012-01-31T11:35:11.029-08:00Ruffled Baby JeggingsEven though I've been very, very absent from the blogging world lately I've still been making stuff. Most of it I don't care to photograph and put up but this I just had to share; I think it is so cute.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-piWvxPSR-wg/TxsBhmz9jiI/AAAAAAAAFyE/CBhuV_QDFAM/s1600/IMG_8902.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-piWvxPSR-wg/TxsBhmz9jiI/AAAAAAAAFyE/CBhuV_QDFAM/s400/IMG_8902.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">the gift. ready to be packaged and sent. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
My good friend of forever (seriously, we've been friends since elementary school, people) is having her first baby next month. A little girl. And I just had to send her a little package of homemade baby goodies. Included was a <a href="http://allforthispenny.blogspot.com/2011/05/bibbity-boppity.html">cute bib</a> and some <a href="http://allforthispenny.blogspot.com/2009/12/crocheted-bow-hair-clip-tutorial.html">hair bows</a> and... these baby jeggings.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zpHheKw2R5c/Txr_hyd-YFI/AAAAAAAAFxs/1dJhQ54XQns/s1600/IMG_8916.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zpHheKw2R5c/Txr_hyd-YFI/AAAAAAAAFxs/1dJhQ54XQns/s400/IMG_8916.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
They are so cute they kill me (trust me, they are even cuter in person... it was pretty hard to get good photos... darn winter). I found some jegging material (looks like jean/denim material but is actually stretchy spandex) in the remnant section that I couldn't resist and used a baby legging pattern I had on hand. My only concern is the crotch is super super long. I understand the length somewhat because the pants have to go over diaper butt but does it seriously need to be thaaat long? I hope they fit decently. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RgRxQ7-XFKE/TxsBS6mcACI/AAAAAAAAFx8/KEhG8SV5a1U/s1600/IMG_8907.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RgRxQ7-XFKE/TxsBS6mcACI/AAAAAAAAFx8/KEhG8SV5a1U/s400/IMG_8907.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R7-74PAxI20/TxsBDv-GxGI/AAAAAAAAFx0/9HNMS4fcFxQ/s1600/IMG_8910.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
The ruffles on the ankles are my favorite part. I hope my friend loves these as much as I do. I love them so much I might have to make another pair for whenever we have a baby girl of our own.Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-88317579601049075242011-12-07T12:46:00.001-08:002011-12-07T12:54:41.607-08:00Christmas PastI haven't really made any Christmas crafts this year so I thought I'd share one I've previously blogged about. I still use (and love) this wreath... but I'm all about decorating for Christmas in the traditional red and green. (<a href="http://allforthispenny.blogspot.com/2009/12/christmas-fabric-wreath.html">Originally blogged about here.</a>)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8xsPB0-cJUI/Sy0xJbYSOCI/AAAAAAAAD24/KL0WxsxzNjs/s1600/IMG_4627.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8xsPB0-cJUI/Sy0xJbYSOCI/AAAAAAAAD24/KL0WxsxzNjs/s320/IMG_4627.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I originally made this fabric wreath years ago (in 2008?) and then later on added the holly and berries out of felt. Easy and cute. :)<br />
<br />

The antler trend. (Don't know what I'm talking about? Check <a href="http://vivafullhouse.blogspot.com/2009/12/3-step-program-to-hanging-rack.html">here</a>, <a href="http://www.sheblogssheblogs.com/2011/08/shed-like-you-to-know.html">here</a>, and <a href="http://vintagerevivals.blogspot.com/2011/02/faux-taxidermy-part-1awww-yea.html">here</a>. Are we on the same page now? Good). <br />
<br />
I liked it but at the same time I wasn't 100% sold. And who wants to invest in or kill an animal for the antlers when you aren't 100% sold? Not me. Well, I figured out a way to incorporate the antler trend into a home without actually having any antlers.<br />
<br />
Ta-da! Embroidered antlers! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wFzMhTZgwlE/TrLacKrGGcI/AAAAAAAAFtk/dwyZdqtEZJw/s1600/IMG_8775-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wFzMhTZgwlE/TrLacKrGGcI/AAAAAAAAFtk/dwyZdqtEZJw/s400/IMG_8775-1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm actually not going to keep these, as I made them for a homemade gift exchange, but I really love how they turned out. In fact, I may make one for me... who knows. The larger one was embroidered with a coral colored floss while the smaller one with a blue. Both are on a blue-gray fabric I had hanging out in my fabric stash.Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-33300686270717343302011-11-03T09:51:00.000-07:002011-11-03T09:52:12.945-07:00Two-toned Infinity ScarfGuess who is posting a tutorial today? ME! Yay! <br />
<br />
It is for this bad boy:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Swh2IAWy63k/TrK7DmyIIfI/AAAAAAAAFsc/a5l6GH_7IQE/s1600/IMG_8762.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Swh2IAWy63k/TrK7DmyIIfI/AAAAAAAAFsc/a5l6GH_7IQE/s400/IMG_8762.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
A two-toned infinity scarf! Pretty cute, amiright?<br />
<br />
First off, you need two colors of knit fabric (mine each measured about 24x70ish inches). <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OGtD3CBy7GA/TrK7b2KAo7I/AAAAAAAAFsk/TTj-9k6K4TE/s1600/IMG_8702.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OGtD3CBy7GA/TrK7b2KAo7I/AAAAAAAAFsk/TTj-9k6K4TE/s400/IMG_8702.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">my fabric is actually folded in half here so it doesn't look as long as it is</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
With right sides together, zigzag or stretch (if your sewing machine has
one) stitch down the two long sides (so you get a long tube). Sorry, no picture... <br />
<br />
Switch that tube right side out. Fold your long tube in half (hamburger style - so the open ends meet). Now, it might get a little confusing, but bear with me. I folded my fabric so that the light blue fabric was sandwiched on the inside. I started pinning my light blue fabric together (only through those two layers). Like so...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-StU6BFtrRIE/TrK-Fds54VI/AAAAAAAAFss/wEl7Ms0n3WI/s1600/IMG_8748.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-StU6BFtrRIE/TrK-Fds54VI/AAAAAAAAFss/wEl7Ms0n3WI/s400/IMG_8748.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Keep on pinning. When you reach where the dark blue fabric is (or whatever color you have on the outside of your fabric sandwich), just readjust your fabric and only pin through the dark blue fabric. Keep on going until you have about a 4-5 inch gap from where you started. The bulk of your fabric might get bunchy, but just try to keep it out of the way.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-efnxOXlaTME/TrLAIw1Ab6I/AAAAAAAAFs0/7X3AnZVrzmM/s1600/IMG_8751.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-efnxOXlaTME/TrLAIw1Ab6I/AAAAAAAAFs0/7X3AnZVrzmM/s400/IMG_8751.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And now start sewing where you just pinned (starting on the light blue or inside color)... again with a zigzag or stretch stitch.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iN0F6vE3_2E/TrLA16bbo4I/AAAAAAAAFs8/47IisumtUV0/s1600/IMG_8756.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iN0F6vE3_2E/TrLA16bbo4I/AAAAAAAAFs8/47IisumtUV0/s400/IMG_8756.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">with this picture you can also see what I mean by the fabric bunching up... </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Once you are done sewing and you readjust your fabric, you will notice that gap we left open (so we could flip the seams we just sewed inside). <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4zPhhMqoN-A/TrLCDEs5YiI/AAAAAAAAFtE/4Vod8DdZPWg/s1600/IMG_8759.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4zPhhMqoN-A/TrLCDEs5YiI/AAAAAAAAFtE/4Vod8DdZPWg/s400/IMG_8759.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Now just hand stitch that opening closed and you are done! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-81YPmTR3WjQ/TrLDjUh7iVI/AAAAAAAAFtM/OEfhDnLrZds/s1600/IMG_8761.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-81YPmTR3WjQ/TrLDjUh7iVI/AAAAAAAAFtM/OEfhDnLrZds/s400/IMG_8761.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is another way to wear this cute scarf:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dQUAzPeIEDg/TrLD-okaijI/AAAAAAAAFtU/KwxDmGuXGwY/s1600/IMG_8769.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dQUAzPeIEDg/TrLD-okaijI/AAAAAAAAFtU/KwxDmGuXGwY/s400/IMG_8769.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I had extra knit fabric on hand, so I made another one! (I used less fabric on this one so it isn't as long).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-psqwgtSO7zw/TrLEaoolK1I/AAAAAAAAFtc/1WTq-cgv7NU/s1600/IMG_8773.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-psqwgtSO7zw/TrLEaoolK1I/AAAAAAAAFtc/1WTq-cgv7NU/s400/IMG_8773.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>

It is <i>another </i>post about my house. Lucky you? <br />
<br />
Last Christmas we got an awesome TV and since then it has been hanging out on a Lifetime folding table... which isn't so awesome. I knew what I wanted for a TV stand - a dresser with the top drawer removed and a shelf in its place. Nothing too specific right? Ha. But I am cheap and lazy so I never got around to finding what I wanted at a price I was willing to pay. But luckily I have awesome friends who, when they found out my TV stand dreams, sold me the dresser they don't really use. <br />
<br />
It went from this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F-npV0mHHik/Tno8Ta-4_7I/AAAAAAAAFrg/SoIphT5WGbk/s1600/IMG_8506.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F-npV0mHHik/Tno8Ta-4_7I/AAAAAAAAFrg/SoIphT5WGbk/s400/IMG_8506.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
To this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M8YyYrj9Ets/Tno9BTcvHVI/AAAAAAAAFrk/x4H5rvHT0Fg/s1600/IMG_8574.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M8YyYrj9Ets/Tno9BTcvHVI/AAAAAAAAFrk/x4H5rvHT0Fg/s400/IMG_8574.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I could have left it cream but it wasn't the prettiest against my yellowish-cream walls and I really was itching for something navy. So navy it became!<br />
<br />
I wish I could have kept the original hardware as it was pretty and ornate but one of the handles was broken so I had to replace them all. Luckily brushed silver looks great against navy.<br />
<br />

<br />
It was a lot of fun to work on this project with my husband - he made the shelf, drilled holes in the back (so cords could be plugged in), and fixed problems with the drawers. I'm so so so happy to have a real TV stand!<br />

It makes me happy. My house is slowly becoming a hodgepodge of color. Whenever I start a new project I always think of a new color I want to use... so basically my house isn't color coordinated but not-matching is totally in right now, right? <i>Right? </i><br />
<br />
Here is a chalkboard I made months and months ago (I'm really good at posting on this blog... obviously... *sheepish face*). Isn't it great? I love how big it is. It was originally intended to help my menu planning endeavors but since I just painted directly over a textured painting, it isn't the greatest at erasing... so I just leave it be. I still love it. Also, this is one of the <a href="http://allforthispenny.blogspot.com/2011/09/speaking-of-chairs.html">aforementioned wall hangings in my kitchen/dining area</a>. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">See, here is what it looks like over my table. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Here are my coral and white curtains (also made months and months ago). I usually get sick of prints pretty quickly (as far as home decor goes) so I wanted these to mostly be solid with only an accent of a print in the hopes that I wouldn't get sick of them within 6 months. So far so good. I still love them. Also, half-off sales are the only way to buy home decor fabric. That stuff ain't cheap (or maybe I just am...).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yt1XeZ3Q-xA/Tno1NgaFC3I/AAAAAAAAFrU/HXQoAosQUG8/s1600/IMG_8625.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yt1XeZ3Q-xA/Tno1NgaFC3I/AAAAAAAAFrU/HXQoAosQUG8/s400/IMG_8625.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Does anyone else have a really hard time photographing curtains? </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Lastly (for now), is this awesome pillow cover I made only a few weeks ago (surprised it wasn't months ago? me too). If you saw <a href="http://allforthispenny.blogspot.com/2011/09/i-totally-labored-on-labor-day.html">this post</a> you may have caught a glimpse of it in the background. Cute huh? I attached a doily to some mustard yellow fabric and had instant craft gratification.<br />

I have a matching set of four, two of which are cream and slightly boring (one pictured below), but the two that I painted last summer are pistachio green and are awesome.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2VQ_bDvLsrU/TnaC45AE0_I/AAAAAAAAFrI/dLuLbrJtsj0/s1600/IMG_8599.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2VQ_bDvLsrU/TnaC45AE0_I/AAAAAAAAFrI/dLuLbrJtsj0/s400/IMG_8599.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--DMsRSYy0Jk/TnaDSdZLBLI/AAAAAAAAFrM/TSvEx9faGEY/s1600/IMG_8605.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--DMsRSYy0Jk/TnaDSdZLBLI/AAAAAAAAFrM/TSvEx9faGEY/s400/IMG_8605.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I promise there is a 4th chair, but I keep it in my sewing room. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I sure love color. And having chairs to sit on whilst eating my dinner and/or using my computer. Life is good. :)<br />
<br />
Also, I promise my kitchen/dining area isn't <i>as </i>boring as it looks in this picture (I have two whole wall hangings... so it is slightly less boring than it looks). I guess my decorating style could be defined as: functional + simple + color + cheap (but not necessarily in that order). Plus, I can't be bothered with staging photos to make things look cuter than they appear. Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-6630956144586269272011-09-06T19:45:00.000-07:002011-09-06T19:46:01.036-07:00I totally labored on Labor DayWanna see what I <i>finally</i> finished? These awesome chairs. Last summer we got them from freecycle but the seats were busted. I wasn't in a rush to finish them but didn't realize it would take me basically a year to actually work on them. But I totally finished them and I feel awesome about it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LOziijXN1TA/TmbVT9Y4ftI/AAAAAAAAFqw/0se9I2pJ5Gg/s1600/Sept+2011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LOziijXN1TA/TmbVT9Y4ftI/AAAAAAAAFqw/0se9I2pJ5Gg/s400/Sept+2011.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
First, I got those nasty broken seats off. Then painted the frames white and distressed them a little. I don't know why I always feel the need to distress painted wood, but I do. It might be because I don't like some things in pristine condition. Plus, it helps draw out details that would otherwise be masked by paint. And these chairs have some lovely details.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rVo7WdIg-lM/TmbW9kqneWI/AAAAAAAAFq0/yNB031f4nkY/s1600/Sept+20111.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rVo7WdIg-lM/TmbW9kqneWI/AAAAAAAAFq0/yNB031f4nkY/s400/Sept+20111.jpg" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Some of the distressed details</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Once the frames were to my liking, we (mostly meaning my husband) went and got some 3/8 inch thick plywood and had them cut down to size. Then I got my high-density foam (40% off coupons are the best as high-density foam is not the cheapest) and cut it down to size (I used my serrated bread knife - worked like a charm).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PDBtQNCp34Y/TmbYBu9qeDI/AAAAAAAAFq4/WF4BIoKmkW0/s1600/Collages1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PDBtQNCp34Y/TmbYBu9qeDI/AAAAAAAAFq4/WF4BIoKmkW0/s400/Collages1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I used my super soft, light-gray pleather remnant I found at Joann's to cover my newly-made seats. My sweet husband stapled the fabric down and will eventually screw those seats down for me (so I guess they <i>technically </i>aren't finished but they are still functional so they still count as done... to me... ). And now I have beautiful and comfy new chairs that were relatively cheap!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-15gdv5ALPfQ/TmbZhkF1hLI/AAAAAAAAFq8/EApV1BP80I0/s1600/IMG_8535.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-15gdv5ALPfQ/TmbZhkF1hLI/AAAAAAAAFq8/EApV1BP80I0/s400/IMG_8535.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Cost breakdown:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>chair frames: $0</li>
<li>paint (cheap-o spraypaint): $8</li>
<li>clear topcoat: $3</li>
<li>plywood: $4</li>
<li>high-density foam: $8</li>
<li>pleather remnant: $4</li>

Total cost for 2 chairs: $27Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-49078554357230728252011-07-22T06:40:00.000-07:002011-07-22T06:40:27.139-07:00Tee FinaleI thought I'd end my t-shirt week with other refashion ideas I've found.<br />
<br />
Up first, another idea with lace from <a href="http://icandyhandmade.blogspot.com/2011/03/mini-tut-x2-gossip-girl-inspired-lace.html">icandy handmade</a>. Love the color. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o1KRmd4fSy8/TYVeaEJF9qI/AAAAAAAABNQ/Trkapd8RZME/s640/Post+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o1KRmd4fSy8/TYVeaEJF9qI/AAAAAAAABNQ/Trkapd8RZME/s400/Post+6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I absolutely love ISLY and this <a href="http://melissaesplin.com/home/2010/06/sweetheart-ballet-tee-tutorial/">tee refashion</a> is no exception. I might have to make one for myself. Sweet and simple. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://melissaesplin.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/isly-ballet-tee-10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://melissaesplin.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/isly-ballet-tee-10.jpg" width="267" /></a></div><br />
<a href="http://jaynsarah.blogspot.com/">Welcome to the Good Life</a> always has amazing clothing projects. Srsly. How cute <a href="http://www.whateverdeedeewants.com/2011/03/spring-fling-anthropolgie-shirt.html">is this top</a>?! Made from t-shirts?!?!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UGk5gWRmSpI/TXXMEKng4uI/AAAAAAAAHgI/HnMC467ud5w/s400/IMG_3044.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UGk5gWRmSpI/TXXMEKng4uI/AAAAAAAAHgI/HnMC467ud5w/s400/IMG_3044.jpg" width="355" /></a></div><br />
And last of all, <a href="http://www.makegrowgather.com/posts/2010/2/21/floaty-embellished-tee.html">this one</a> would make me feel like a ballerina. But maybe that is just me... :) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.makegrowgather.com/storage/Float%20Tee.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1266857387073" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://www.makegrowgather.com/storage/Float%20Tee.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1266857387073" width="313" /></a></div><br />
Are there any other t-shirt refashions that you've done or want to do? Let me know! :)Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-68625967219458792162011-07-21T09:55:00.000-07:002011-07-21T09:55:40.842-07:00Random T-Shirt PastSo now that you have seen all the tee refashions I've done lately, I thought I'd show you some I did ages ago. There are so so many ways to refashion t-shirts. <br />
<br />
Remember the shirt I showed you on Monday? The ombre one? Well, the <a href="http://floralshowers.com/sewing/corsage-shirt/">first time</a> I refashioned it, it ended up looking like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XeyO53oA7RI/TiciqpLhfCI/AAAAAAAAFok/a3qS-8D9EXY/s1600/IMG_3079.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XeyO53oA7RI/TiciqpLhfCI/AAAAAAAAFok/a3qS-8D9EXY/s400/IMG_3079.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
I liked the shirt but every time it was washed the corsage part of it looked crumpled to heck and would need to be ironed. So while it was cute it was annoying. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://floralshowers.com/sewing/cap-sleeve-tee/">Another one</a> I did, I just chopped off the sleeves, took it in, and added a rosette.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cFJmWsJQfHE/TicjgGTsGQI/AAAAAAAAFos/CtjVHUewZvQ/s1600/IMG_3348.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cFJmWsJQfHE/TicjgGTsGQI/AAAAAAAAFos/CtjVHUewZvQ/s400/IMG_3348.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
And here is what it looked like on:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ja0yKWVBLgk/TicjMlqCgDI/AAAAAAAAFoo/QitYYakSn-0/s1600/IMG_3389.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ja0yKWVBLgk/TicjMlqCgDI/AAAAAAAAFoo/QitYYakSn-0/s400/IMG_3389.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
When a shirt is just too large, you could always cut off the sleeves, take things in, put the sleeves back on, and gather up the sides like I did on <a href="http://floralshowers.com/crafts/college-football/">this shirt</a>:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6SepMmhpcS0/TickVIEEs3I/AAAAAAAAFow/wrfQwQWn2fM/s1600/IMG_3724.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6SepMmhpcS0/TickVIEEs3I/AAAAAAAAFow/wrfQwQWn2fM/s400/IMG_3724.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
Also, why not sew <a href="http://allforthispenny.blogspot.com/2009/12/refashioning.html">two t-shirts</a> together?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W9m5O82SonU/TiclNUSFrTI/AAAAAAAAFo0/jfUNdChAtYQ/s1600/IMG_4434.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W9m5O82SonU/TiclNUSFrTI/AAAAAAAAFo0/jfUNdChAtYQ/s400/IMG_4434.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
Stay tuned, there is still one more day to t-shirt week!Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-69660867636637578272011-07-20T07:45:00.000-07:002011-07-20T07:45:41.961-07:00Sequins = LoveReady for another t-shirt refashion? I am! And guess what? This one cost me absolutely zero to make. Zip. Here is why: hand-me-down t-shirt and swapped sequin dress. Awesome right?<br />
<br />
So this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--Xx9g3FoQPg/TiSpDu8H_6I/AAAAAAAAFno/Nbm10QoVdf4/s1600/IMG_8458.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--Xx9g3FoQPg/TiSpDu8H_6I/AAAAAAAAFno/Nbm10QoVdf4/s400/IMG_8458.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Started out as these:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BpH6vgPM6tQ/TiSob5mQSHI/AAAAAAAAFnk/ON1MaE79L6Y/s1600/July+20113.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BpH6vgPM6tQ/TiSob5mQSHI/AAAAAAAAFnk/ON1MaE79L6Y/s400/July+20113.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
My inspiration:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://images.anthropologie.com/is/image/Anthropologie/20869475_005_b?$product410x615$" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://images.anthropologie.com/is/image/Anthropologie/20869475_005_b?$product410x615$" width="266" /></a></div><br />
I simply cut the sequin fabric off of the dress and cut it down to two strips. Aaaaand sewed it down. Easy, easy. Oh, I also decided to add a strip of sequins to the pocket. Love it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qnHftOkLisw/TiSpzhDCvQI/AAAAAAAAFns/IWs6mS7TqJc/s1600/IMG_8451.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qnHftOkLisw/TiSpzhDCvQI/AAAAAAAAFns/IWs6mS7TqJc/s400/IMG_8451.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Y25ZUE3uBik/TiSqABTpfyI/AAAAAAAAFnw/FbKLG2_uKik/s1600/IMG_8456.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Y25ZUE3uBik/TiSqABTpfyI/AAAAAAAAFnw/FbKLG2_uKik/s400/IMG_8456.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I'm thinking it would be super cute with a skirt. Yes, I like that idea. Consider it done.Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-62355184700951299732011-07-19T08:35:00.000-07:002011-07-19T11:23:32.346-07:00Blue Lace TeeLast summer (I think), I made myself a t-shirt from an extra-large shirt I had laying around. I didn't finish any of the edges (yay for knit fabric) so it was super duper easy to make. I wore it a few times and then stopped. It was boring. But not anymore!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-G2TIAdqbzJ0/TiSj5o9Yo5I/AAAAAAAAFnU/jaoXpsb-3nI/s1600/July+20112.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-G2TIAdqbzJ0/TiSj5o9Yo5I/AAAAAAAAFnU/jaoXpsb-3nI/s400/July+20112.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I took some lace and some royal blue Rit dye and got to work.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pbs5aMOKsO8/TiSkKqWPcZI/AAAAAAAAFnY/vaNmy809Nv0/s1600/IMG_8302.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pbs5aMOKsO8/TiSkKqWPcZI/AAAAAAAAFnY/vaNmy809Nv0/s400/IMG_8302.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Once my lace was dyed and dry, I tried my shirt on and pinned the lace in place. I (very) carefully took the shirt off and sewed in place. Here was my first (and failed) attempt at sewing the lace straight. My advice, put more than 3 pins in to hold in place.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OS3Pt3n-_tk/TiSkaFHqpvI/AAAAAAAAFnc/VLJB8fKAaJM/s1600/IMG_8306.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OS3Pt3n-_tk/TiSkaFHqpvI/AAAAAAAAFnc/VLJB8fKAaJM/s400/IMG_8306.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">crooked... oops :)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>And here it is after I unpicked and sewed that blue lace down.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y2jtfIyYaKo/TiSlEL_ULHI/AAAAAAAAFng/pbPSSNZzwXM/s1600/IMG_8440.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y2jtfIyYaKo/TiSlEL_ULHI/AAAAAAAAFng/pbPSSNZzwXM/s400/IMG_8440.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />

Well, you are in luck! I am going to have a t-shirt refashioning week... starting RIGHT NOW! :)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.yourdictionary.com/ombr-e">Ombre</a> is all the rage right now. Need proof? Well, <a href="http://www.jcrew.com/boys_feature/newarrivals/teepolosfleece/PRDOVR%7E41963/41963.jsp">here</a> it is, and <a href="http://sheblogssheblogs.blogspot.com/2011/06/ombre-sock-tutuorial.html">here</a>, and <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/66302924/">here</a>. Oh, and <a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?navAction=jump&id=893020&parentid=SEARCH_RESULTS&color=aqu">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ODpiDn_tTXU/TiRed8WwFJI/AAAAAAAAFnM/k0k6tU7MVi4/s1600/July+20111.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ODpiDn_tTXU/TiRed8WwFJI/AAAAAAAAFnM/k0k6tU7MVi4/s400/July+20111.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Well, I had a boring white v-neck that used to be this <a href="http://floralshowers.com/sewing/corsage-shirt/">t-shirt</a> (I got sick of ironing the ruffle/corsage thing so I took it off) and I decided to jump on the ombre band-wagon. Luckily, <a href="http://cottonandcurls.blogspot.com/">C&C</a> (LOVE her blog) had a <a href="http://cottonandcurls.blogspot.com/2011/05/ombre-shirt-and-first-guess-post.html">tutorial</a> on how to dye your own ombre shirt. <br />
<br />
Originally I had wanted to do a navy blue (like the J.Crew shirt) but when I went to buy the Rit dye, my husband helped talk me into the bright sunshine orange. I think it turned out pretty cute but kinda wish I had still done the navy blue. Oh well. Next time. :)<br />

I figured if I changed it then I might want to blog more. Here is my first-grade skill level attempt at making one. Anyone care to help or just make one for me? I can't pay you but I could make you something. <br />
<br />

One trend that I've picked up on is that tribal prints are coming back. I didn't want to get too out of my comfort zone but thought I'd give the trend a shot with a belt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sv5h_l_PWs4/ThoAFxTqJ7I/AAAAAAAAFlY/5nAjl8scao0/s1600/July+2011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sv5h_l_PWs4/ThoAFxTqJ7I/AAAAAAAAFlY/5nAjl8scao0/s400/July+2011.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I've had this ribbon for a few years now and had no idea what to do with it... I've also had this belt buckle-thingy for even longer. I don't even know what it technically is - it just came in a random assortment of buttons and notions I got FORever ago. But it works just great for what I had in mind. <br />
<br />
Here is what you'll need if you want to recreate this belt (if you can even find a similar buckle-guy, but you could use a ring of some sort in substitution). Ribbon, buckley-thing, Velcro, and a sewing machine (or glue?). <br />
<br />
First off, stick one end of ribbon through one side of buckle. Sew (or glue) down.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kaZhfLY05ps/ThoAxJHQIEI/AAAAAAAAFlc/MODBxby1NEY/s1600/IMG_8214.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kaZhfLY05ps/ThoAxJHQIEI/AAAAAAAAFlc/MODBxby1NEY/s400/IMG_8214.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Measure the belt around your waist (or wherever you want it to sit) and add about 3 inches. Cut to length (it would also be a good idea to Fray Check your ribbon ends). Figure out where Velcro will go.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zwcjI921UEM/ThoBcNLugkI/AAAAAAAAFlg/ul5oEV8Dj_o/s1600/IMG_8217.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zwcjI921UEM/ThoBcNLugkI/AAAAAAAAFlg/ul5oEV8Dj_o/s400/IMG_8217.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Sew Velcro down (on WRONG side of ribbon). Tip: I sewed the "hook" part of the Velcro (the scratchy side) on the very end. I did this so that when I am wearing the belt it won't accidentally scratch my clothes because when worn that part of the Velcro will face away from my body. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R9V0IECSuAg/ThoByjZJTWI/AAAAAAAAFlk/8JPKGFYc0u4/s1600/IMG_8223.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R9V0IECSuAg/ThoByjZJTWI/AAAAAAAAFlk/8JPKGFYc0u4/s400/IMG_8223.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Wear belt and try not to feel stupid while posing for pictures. :) <br />
<br />

My cute husband!! To celebrate, I made him a little sign.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xUCjTinUWd4/TgDIaUjj2XI/AAAAAAAAFfs/dJCSiDuaF-Y/s1600/IMG_7988.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xUCjTinUWd4/TgDIaUjj2XI/AAAAAAAAFfs/dJCSiDuaF-Y/s400/IMG_7988.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Pretty cute, huh? I just used my friend's cricut to cut out the letters. I cut some patterned paper into triangles, used a little distressing ink on the edges, and then glued the letters on. After punching some holes in the corners, I strung the whole thing on twine. So easy. A bazillion times easier than medical school, I tell you. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wpFvioVLDUk/TgDIxaA6moI/AAAAAAAAFfw/wAiZs-OK4tE/s1600/IMG_7989.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wpFvioVLDUk/TgDIxaA6moI/AAAAAAAAFfw/wAiZs-OK4tE/s400/IMG_7989.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I'm so proud of my husband. This past year hasn't been all rainbows and cupcakes for him and he has really had to work his butt off, but he did it! Congrats, my love!Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-2456594170826907152011-06-24T09:14:00.000-07:002011-06-24T09:14:00.565-07:00Exposed What?Over a month ago I made a pillow for my couch. And I'm just barely blogging about it... cause I'm lazy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZQo3On7m-7U/TgDFbd-yetI/AAAAAAAAFfo/mXQs0iCnG5Q/s1600/IMG_7836.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZQo3On7m-7U/TgDFbd-yetI/AAAAAAAAFfo/mXQs0iCnG5Q/s400/IMG_7836.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DoGopvbq8kg/TgDEM2OBRgI/AAAAAAAAFfc/GgqGd52jO28/s1600/IMG_7837.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br />
</a></div>Pretty cute as is, right?<br />
<br />
But wait a second... what is on the other side? An exposed zipper?! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zwdwWOJTcUs/TgDEjYlmpZI/AAAAAAAAFfg/DhEDkVEdn3A/s1600/IMG_7832.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zwdwWOJTcUs/TgDEjYlmpZI/AAAAAAAAFfg/DhEDkVEdn3A/s400/IMG_7832.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Nice! (I promise the pillow isn't as lumpy as it appears... there is a down pillow form inside that I didn't take the time to properly plump up.)<br />
<br />

I got the idea from the awesome <a href="http://www.freshlypickedblog.com/">Freshly Picked</a> blog. She even has a <a href="http://www.freshlypickedblog.com/2011/03/how-to-put-zipper-in-pillow.html">tutorial</a> if you want to copy. Anyone else love the exposed zipper trend going on? I'm thinking of making a skirt with an exposed zipper down the back. It is really cute in my head but we'll see if I'm able to make it as cute as I imagine.Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-26155825181585493122011-06-21T09:12:00.000-07:002011-06-21T09:12:31.781-07:00It's MagicalGuess what? I actually made something! With leather, no less. And it was easy. And super cheap (I got the leather for practically pennies at a yard sale).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dJ9AM5ON7BM/TgDAnwhqniI/AAAAAAAAFfU/d92MydLQCFg/s1600/IMG_8009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dJ9AM5ON7BM/TgDAnwhqniI/AAAAAAAAFfU/d92MydLQCFg/s400/IMG_8009.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
Can you tell what it is?<br />
<br />
It is a magic braided bracelet, tutorial c/o of <a href="http://melissaesplin.com/home/2011/06/magic-braided-leather-tutorial/">ISLY</a>. I didn't actually print her pattern piece (I don't have a printer), I just guessed cut and it worked out ok. See, here is what it looks like on. I guess after time it will relax and lay flatter.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nPyICbs9ER8/TgDAF3Wz6QI/AAAAAAAAFfI/ODhN7DFrJ7k/s1600/IMG_8002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nPyICbs9ER8/TgDAF3Wz6QI/AAAAAAAAFfI/ODhN7DFrJ7k/s400/IMG_8002.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I know it looks black but it is actually "nautical blue"... This bracelet may have been my first step into all things leather but it was also my first time using snaps (and not the kind you sew on...). They are super easy to use, especially if you use an eraser to help poke the prongs through the fabric, like the instructions recommend. <br />
<br />
Also, I wanted to show off my nails (the bracelet is kinda in the picture... so it is somehow related to this post... right?). Aren't they cute? My friend's little sister painted them for me. Hot pink with a gray crackle polish on top. They are my favorite.<br />

She is having a little boy so I used what boyish fabric I had for these cute little guys:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NyfZzc7LG1U/Td1izm83X0I/AAAAAAAAFas/yzQRZ8rP-4Q/s1600/IMG_7717.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NyfZzc7LG1U/Td1izm83X0I/AAAAAAAAFas/yzQRZ8rP-4Q/s400/IMG_7717.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
While I was going through my fabric stash for her gift and since I had bibs on the brain, I kept on seeing fabric that I thought would be super adorable as baby bibs (for little girls...). I simply couldn't resist and had to make more bibs. If I'm already making 2 bibs, why not make 6? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F9qROt2th8I/Td1kBFd2QPI/AAAAAAAAFaw/CS7VHx4OpVw/s1600/IMG_7770.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F9qROt2th8I/Td1kBFd2QPI/AAAAAAAAFaw/CS7VHx4OpVw/s400/IMG_7770.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3bSYP4DrGHI/Td1kT1gT1QI/AAAAAAAAFa4/8PfT_EE4aXA/s1600/IMG_7795.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3bSYP4DrGHI/Td1kT1gT1QI/AAAAAAAAFa4/8PfT_EE4aXA/s400/IMG_7795.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I seriously think they are so cute. But I'm probably biased. <br />
<br />
I have absolutely no use for these cute bibs so I decided to list them on <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/jesscalator">etsy</a> to sell (from a shop I opened forever ago and haven't really used). I figure if they don't sell, I can always save them for future baby gifts. Sounds good to me.Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-66695689017588948422011-04-27T12:10:00.000-07:002011-04-27T12:10:09.134-07:00Spring Top SewalongBlogging hasn't been my top priority lately. I haven't really felt like it... so I haven't. But, I definitely wanted to blog about a top I just finished. Why? 1) I think it turned out super super cute and 2) I'm going to add it to the <a href="http://www.made-by-rae.com/2011/04/its-time-for-spring-top-sewalong.html">Spring Top Sewalong</a> contest on Made By Rae (remember how I did that last year?) and 3) it gives me a good reason to brag about how my awesome husband got me a serger for my birthday earlier this month. <br />
And here is the awesomely cute top:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3D4DGaUVDSY/TbhmUPW6jxI/AAAAAAAAFT4/xAwdIDMoB2I/s1600/IMG_7664.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3D4DGaUVDSY/TbhmUPW6jxI/AAAAAAAAFT4/xAwdIDMoB2I/s400/IMG_7664.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I recently visited my family in Utah and while I was there my sister gave me tons of fabric that she wasn't using. In the pile was this cute white fabric with small navy polka dots on it. I knew I wanted to make a shirt with it so I went through my patterns and found one I thought would work. I changed A LOT of things and the only thing that really ended up like the pattern are the pleats in the front and the closure detail in the back. Everything else I altered to my little hearts desire.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">close-up on the pleats</td></tr>

</tbody></table>I love it. I really, really do. Having a serger really made a difference in this top. I won't having any fraying edges and it'll hold up better in the wash. Thank you, cute husband and awesome sister for contributing to the making of this shirt.Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07276004776218349291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852529601789907044.post-67781670280637339042011-03-14T13:53:00.000-07:002011-03-14T13:53:59.466-07:00MIASo... I haven't even looked at this blog in months. Whoops. Oh well. Life happens. Winter isn't my most productive time of the year. BUT now that spring is on its way, I've got a few projects in mind. <br />
<br />
First, I want to turn this very large picture and frame (I left my husband's shoes in the picture so you could get an idea of how big it is) into a chalkboard for my kitchen. I have grand ideas of it containing our menu for the week. I'm thinking of painting the frame either a happy blue or plum color... probably plum. Oh, and guess how much the frame cost? $5. Thank you, Salvation Army. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-M463AmD2wZo/TX59QPIxs0I/AAAAAAAAFOw/Fnp1PLixMmw/s1600/IMG_7497.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-M463AmD2wZo/TX59QPIxs0I/AAAAAAAAFOw/Fnp1PLixMmw/s400/IMG_7497.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Also, here is another thrift store purchase (this time it cost me less than a $1). I started wrapping it with some gray yarn I already had on hand but got bored. I'm planning on finishing it eventually. But maybe it won't be gray... not sure.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-yFzcz_kzJEU/TX59ePDmiaI/AAAAAAAAFO0/OZEq12-p_50/s1600/IMG_7501.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-yFzcz_kzJEU/TX59ePDmiaI/AAAAAAAAFO0/OZEq12-p_50/s400/IMG_7501.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Yay for cheap plastic Easter eggs. I'm planning on paper mache-ing these little guys, painting them in an array of Easter-y colors and attaching them to a wreath form (with hot glue, of course), maybe with some moss... in my head it looks awesome. I guess I really love wreaths... yup, I do. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/--jDK_mrqbAE/TX59zrV9FdI/AAAAAAAAFO4/Zttl8Agdgoc/s1600/IMG_7509.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/--jDK_mrqbAE/TX59zrV9FdI/AAAAAAAAFO4/Zttl8Agdgoc/s400/IMG_7509.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Also, remember last year when I posted regularly and made <a href="http://allforthispenny.blogspot.com/2010/09/candy-corn-hoops.html">candy corn embroidery hoops</a>? Well, here is what is currently hanging out in those embroidery hoops. So springy and cheerful!<br />
<br />

Trees!So, yes... I dropped off the face of the crafting planet. Why? <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpal_tunnel_syndrome">Carpal Tunnel</a>. It hurts... therefore crafting is usually out of the question. BUT, I did manage to make something a few weeks ago and finally took pictures of it today.<br />
<br />
I saw some cute glitter trees made from styrofoam trees about a month ago that I thought were super cute. Unfortunately, my husband has a no glitter policy that I kindly obey. I still wanted to make something similar, though. I headed to the Dollar Tree (in my opinion, the best dollar store out there... just ask my husband, I LOVE the Dollar Tree) and picked up 2 styrofoam trees, 2 packages of "decorative container filler" (small colored styrofoam balls; one red, one green), and 1 candle stick.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GFHkEfzolg/TPLDJLtAQMI/AAAAAAAAFCI/YthVfA1RYpM/s1600/IMG_7231.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1GFHkEfzolg/TPLDJLtAQMI/AAAAAAAAFCI/YthVfA1RYpM/s400/IMG_7231.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I painted my trees with some craft paint I already had on hand and let them dry. Then I hot glued away. On one of the trees I glued the candle stick to the base to add some dimension.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GFHkEfzolg/TPLDCzqC6oI/AAAAAAAAFCE/3iTPJuGT-kk/s1600/IMG_7238.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1GFHkEfzolg/TPLDCzqC6oI/AAAAAAAAFCE/3iTPJuGT-kk/s400/IMG_7238.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
And here are my Dollar Tree trees. Not bad for a $5 project. <br />
<br />
